An important consideration when choosing any music school or independent music teacher, is what level of insurance does that person or company have behind them.
Believe it or not, many small and independent music teachers have no insurance whatsoever. Even some music teachers entering government state schools in the state of Victoria have no insurance at all.
According to the Victorian Education Department this is illegal and should not be happening. According to their guidelines, any independent teacher (i.e. a person who bills parents directly for services without involving the school in payments, and is subsequently not on the schools' payroll), is required to have their own Public Liability Insurance cover. Otherwise, that person should not be entering the school grounds for the purpose of that business activity.
GuitarFX strictly abide by these guidelines set out by the Victorian Education Department, and have their own Public Liability Insurance policy. This covers our staff to teach anytime, anyplace… Australia-wide.
If you are unsure whether your childs' music teacher has the correct level of insurance - or actually has any at all, ask them. Alternatively, ask the school Principal or School Council/Committee - they should know! If they are unsure, then something should be done to find out before that person takes another lesson inside the school grounds.
